Martyrs of fasting

Put in a bowl a handful of flour and fish, add the yeast you mix before with sugar and 3-4 tablespoons of water. Leave to rise for about 15 minutes in a warm place away from currents.

Put the rest of the flour in a bowl, over which you add the rest of the ingredients, with the yeast, less water. Start kneading by pouring water little by little until the dough comes off your hands.

Cover it with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm place for an hour.

After the time has elapsed, take small lumps of dough and form the martyrs, as you like, only in the shape of eight to come out ... :)))

Put them in a tray (I put baking paper and sprinkled flour so they don't burn), grease them with the syrup made of the 4 tablespoons of sugar with water and leave them to rise a little, then put them in the oven preheated for about 20 minutes.

When they are cooked, let them cool a bit, and in the meantime prepare the syrup, as follows: in a saucepan put the sugar, water, honey, essences and lemon peel and let them simmer until thickened. I held it for about 10 minutes.

Put the martyrs in syrup, then take them out in a higher bowl next to each other, pour the rest of the syrup over them and sprinkle the ground walnuts.

You serve them of course, with a glass of red wine, or ... 40 glasses ... :)))
