How to Make the Best Turkey Meatloaf

I have two essential tips for making the best meatloaf.

The first is to chop up the veggies small enough. The exact right size may be different for each family. If you feel like you need to “hide” these veggies, then go ahead and mince them. You can even grate the veggies and they’ll practically disappear.

If you want them to stand out more, chop them more coarsely, but no bigger than a penny. If you cut them larger than that, it may cause the meat the crumble when you cut it and the loaf will break apart. (I left my veggies on the bigger side so you could spot them in the photos!)

My second meatloaf tip is to not overwork the meat when you’re mixing it. If you work it too much then the meat will be tough. So treat it like you would muffin batter: just mix it until everything is just incorporated, then put it in your loaf pan.


Turkey Salad Recipe

You probably know how to make turkey salad. You could probably even make it with your eyes closed. All that said, you need this recipe. Our Test Kitchen cracked the code on turkey salad, creating this best-ever version that&rsquos extra flavorful. Instead of making the dressing with plain mayonnaise, we added a little sour cream for more richness and tang, as well as apple cider vinegar and Dijon mustard. Finely chopped celery and shallot add just the right amount of crunch, and a little chopped flat-leaf parsley adds a bright note. Finally, the recipe calls for shredded (not chopped) turkey because the dressing adheres better when the turkey is shredded. Go classic with this recipe, or use it as a foundation for one of our three variations: Golden Curry Turkey Salad, Fruit-and-Nut Turkey Salad, or Pickle-and-Dill Turkey Salad. All four options taste amazing sandwiched between two slices of bread, or served with crackers atop a bed of mixed greens. Trust us, you&rsquoll have this new recipe memorized in no time.


The other day I was craving a turkey sandwich for lunch and decided to make a turkey club. I used Boar’s Head turkey thinly sliced, my favorite turkey from the grocery store deli. It hit the spot! Turkey clubs are great with just some chips and a pickle, but you could also serve it with your favorite side. Here are some options: potato salad, egg salad, tomato salad, corn, tomato, and avocado salad, fruit salad, and tomato soup.

Crispy bacon is the best part of a club. Bacon makes everything better, amiright? One of the easiest ways to cook bacon is in the oven. Put the bacon on a foil- lined baking sheet and bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes, flipping over after 10 minutes. Let bacon sit on paper towels for a few minutes to drain the grease.


How to cook a turkey

Follow our five fail-proof steps for serving up tasty roast turkey. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned pro, it never hurts to have a quick turkey tutorial.

So it's the holidays, and you're responsible for the main dish. Don't worry you're only five steps away from serving the perfect bird at your big feast. Read on to learn how to cook a turkey.

Step 1: Thaw it. If using a frozen turkey, thaw in its original plastic wrapper in the fridge. Allow for five hours per pound, or per 500 g.

Quicker method: Cover the turkey with cold water (the sink is a good place for this), and change with fresh cold water every 30 minutes allow one hour per pound (500 g).

Step 2: Season it. Prepare the turkey by removing giblets and neck. Rinse and wipe the cavity sprinkle with salt and pepper or stuff lightly using skewers to fasten skin over the cavity.

Step 3: Roast it. Place turkey, breast side up, on rack in roasting pan. Brush with melted butter or oil. Tent loosely with foil. Roast in 325ºF (160ºC) oven for about 20 minutes per pound (500 g) or until juices run clear when turkey is pierced and when thermometer inserted into thickest part of thigh registers 180ºF (82ºC) for an unstuffed turkey. Stuffed turkey should be cooked to the same temperature, and the stuffing itself should reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C). Remove tent for last hour of roasting.

Step 4: Cover and leave it. When turkey is done, transfer to warm platter. Tent with foil and let stand for 20 to 30 minutes. This allows time for juices at the surface of the bird to distribute evenly throughout the meat.

Step 5: Carve turkey. Eat and enjoy!

  • Don’t fill them with too much lettuce or they will be hard to roll up.
  • To prevent the avocados from browning it’s best to roll them the day of. To save time in the morning, cook the bacon the night before and have everything prepped and ready, with snacks packed.
  • If your kids don’t like avocado, leave it out. Same for any other ingredients.
  • You can swap turkey for chicken, swap pork bacon for turkey bacon.
